Nelson brings decades of SBA and commercial lending experience to support small businesses throughout Massachusetts and New England

Wakefield, MA — October 8, 2026 — CDC New England/BDC Capital is pleased to announce that Robert “Bob” Nelson has joined the organization as a Business Development Officer, focusing on the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 504 Loan Program throughout Massachusetts.

Nelson will concentrate his efforts in Greater Boston, the Merrimack Valley and Western Massachusetts, working with lenders, commercial real estate professionals, business advisors and small business owners to provide long-term financing for owner-occupied commercial real estate, construction, renovations and major equipment purchases. He will also originate SBA 504 opportunities throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Decades of SBA and Commercial Lending Experience

Nelson brings more than four decades of commercial lending, economic development and SBA experience. Most recently, he served as District Director of the SBA’s Massachusetts District Office from 2007 through 2025, overseeing SBA programs and services throughout the Commonwealth. He also held several senior acting roles within the SBA, including Acting Regional Administrator for SBA New England and Acting Deputy Associate Administrator for the SBA Office of Capital Access.

“Bob is exceptionally well known and respected throughout the Massachusetts lending and small business communities, and we are thrilled to have him join our team,” said David Raccio, Senior Vice President and Director of SBA Lending for CDC New England/BDC Capital. “His SBA experience, knowledge of the Massachusetts market and longstanding relationships with lenders and economic development partners will be a tremendous resource for our organization and the small businesses we serve.”

“I’m excited to join CDC New England/BDC Capital and continue working with lenders, economic development partners and small businesses throughout Massachusetts,” said Nelson. “The SBA 504 Loan Program is an outstanding tool for helping growing businesses acquire the real estate and equipment they need to expand, and I look forward to helping more businesses throughout New England take advantage of the program.”
